Instrument Cluster
I’ve made many
mods to my Comet and the cluster will be no exception. I’ve seen other Comet that no longer had the
original cluster trim and for some reason, I want to keep that original look,
but I also want to update the gauges.
Here is the cluster taken
apart…there are three layers to the cluster…

I then took a piece of tail pipe
that transitioned from 2” to 1 ¾” and cut a segment to use as template to
ensure I knew exactly here to cut a larger hole for my new Auto Meter Pro-Comp
gauges to fit…

After I traced the holes, I used a
2” hole saw to cut each gauge hole…I had also removed all the plastic bubbles
used for the turn lights…

Using 2” tail pipe, I created a
sleeve the hold the gauge at just the right height over the bottom plate so the
gauge would be tightly pressed in between the middle and bottom plate…

Here’s the 2 1/16” gauge with the
sleeve holding it in the right position…It fits perfectly inside the 2” tail
pipe…go figure!

Here is the middle plate held in
position. I trimmed the circumference
on each opening slightly larger so the new gauge can be seen easier…

…and here is the top plate to give
an idea of what the finished product will look like. I still need to get the 3 3/8” speedometer and figure out to do
the mount it the same way…

…more to come…
